The legendary ruins of the Minneburg castle offer a beautiful view of Neckargerach and the Neckar valley.
Minneburg Castle is an impressive castle ruin in the Neckar Valley and a popular destination for hikers and day trippers. From here, you have a wonderful view of the valley - and if you fancy a picnic or barbecue, two barbecue areas await you.
The castle was probably built in the middle of the 13th century. In 1518, it came into the possession of Wilhelm von Habern, who had it rebuilt in the Renaissance style. The stair tower in the inner courtyard and the beautiful oriel on the palas date from this period. The Minneburg used to be the administrative seat of the Electoral Palatinate - today it invites you to discover, linger and dream. The ruins were restored in the 19th century, inspired by the romantic enthusiasm for times gone by.
And as befits a real castle, there is of course also a legend: Minna von Hornberg once fell in love with the knight Edelmuth von Neckarsteinach. But before they could marry, he went on a crusade. In the meantime, Minna was to be married to someone else - but she fled in a cloak-and-dagger operation and hid in a cave for seven years. When Edelmuth finally returned, she was dying. On her deathbed, he promised to build a castle as a memorial to her love. And so the Minneburg got its name: after the medieval "Minne", romantic love.
