Fascinating Wolfsschlucht gorge - geological heritage in the Neckar valley

The starting point of this hiking tour is at Zwingenberg railroad station. Here you immediately turn left and walk alongside the tracks in the direction of the signposted Zwingenberg Castle.

After a short time, you will reach the castle, which rises majestically above the Neckar. The castle is now the venue for the annual Zwingenberg Castle Festival. Directly
to the right of the castle is the entrance to the gorge, where the last wolf in the Odenwald is said to have been shot in 1886.

The gorge itself is an impressive geotope: the rocky slope often breaks off and scree and weathered debris plunge into the depths of the valley floor. The stream develops such a seasonal erosive force that it clears out the valley again, leaving behind bizarre rock formations that blend harmoniously into the landscape covered in ferns, mosses and lichens.

You climb up the gorge past several cascades and always follow the stream that runs alongside the path. At the end of the gorge, turn right and walk along the parallel path to Wolfsschlucht gorge back to the castle and then to Zwingenberg railroad station.
