A challenging circular hike to the Freischärlergrab from 1848/49 and the "Rotes Bild" wayside shrine from 1524.

The starting point of the hike, which is marked H5 throughout, is the underpass in Neckarsteinacher Straße near the Sparkasse bank. The challenging circular hike leads from the Schießbuckel in hairpin bends uphill for 340 meters to the Freischärlergrab.

The trail first leads through the Kohlwald forest, then through the higher-lying Pfalzwald forest to the village of Grein. This small village, which belongs to Neckarsteinach, was first mentioned in a document in 1326. From there it is only about 10 minutes to the youth campsite of the Geo-Nature Park with the Kreuzschlag parking lot.

Shortly after the parking lot, you enter the area of Michelbuch, at the other end of which is the "Rote Bild". This wayside shrine, dated 1524, stands right on the border between the former Schönau monastery and Hirschhorn. From now on, the trail leads downhill over the Michelberg to Hirschhorn. After a while, you will reach the start of the H5 trail again, which you now follow in hairpin bends downhill to Schießbuckel and from there back to the starting point of the hike.
