The Odenwald dialect trail takes you from Gerchsheim, Tauberbischofsheim and Hardheim via Walldürn to Amorbach in Bavaria - and from there via Mudau to Mosbach-Neckarelz and Obrigheim. Along the way, you will discover the region‘s dialects in all their diversity - exciting for anyone who is traveling by bike and wants to learn more about language and culture.

You start in Gerchsheim in the Tauber Valley and cycle via Hardheim and Walldürn - with a detour to the small Baroque town of Amorbach in Lower Franconia - along the Odenwald dialect trail to Miltenberg on the River Main. From there, you return via Amorbach and Mudau to Mosbach-Neckarelz and on to Obrigheim. On your way, you will cross two federal states, three counties and several language regions - an exciting journey through a wide variety of dialects and landscapes.

The dialect trail was initiated by the Mudau local history association under the direction of Hans Slama and in cooperation with the Buchen District Museum. The result is a very special tourist attraction in the region.

Whether you are hiking or cycling, the dialect trail invites you to experience the diversity of Franconian dialects up close. At the cycling stations, you can listen to language examples and exciting background information about the respective places directly on your cell phone using a QR code. Or you can simply take a look at all the stations online on the homepage. If you don‘t understand something, the standard German text will help you.

Buchen loop:

A special highlight is the Buchen loop - also part of the dialect trail. It takes you from Mosbach-Neckarelz to Tauberbischofsheim. At each stop, you will find boards with authentic dialect contributions in the local dialect - super exciting and genuine!
Please remember: the Buchen loop is not an officially designated cycle path. You cycle along both busy roads and forest paths. In total, the route is around 60 kilometers long.
