This pilgrimage route is one of the last gaps in Baden-Württemberg and a section of the main route from Prague-Nuremberg-Rothenburg-Speyer, Strasbourg to Santiago de Compostela.

The pilgrimage route from Rothenburg to the old cathedral city of Speyer follows the so-called former "Hohe Straße". This is a long-distance route dating back to early history. The starting point in Rothenburg is the town church of St. Jakob. On the Hohenlohe plain, follow the Rothenburg-Rottenburg Way of St. James as far as the village of Blaufelden-Epfersweiler. After the Jagst bridge in Mulfingen-Heimhausen, you hike into the idyllic Jagst valley with its medieval pilgrimage chapels, St. James churches and the Cistercian monastery.

The main route takes you from Schöntal Monastery into the Jagsttal valley in the Heilbronn region. You reach the Neckar via Jagsthausen and Neudenau with the Jakobuskirche Jagsthausen church and the St. Gangolf chapel in Neudenau.

The route continues past the two spa towns of Bad Wimpfen with the Ritterstiftskirche church and the Bad Wimpfen monastery in the valley and Bad Rappenau to Sinsheim. You finally hike over the Letzenberg to your destination of Speyer.

From Schöntal Abbey, you can also take a northern route through the Odenwald to Sinsheim. You reach Sinsheim via Adelsheim with the medieval St. Jacob‘s Church and Mosbach with the Gutleut Chapel. From there, the route also takes you over the Letzenberg to Speyer.
