Buchen District Museum

Kellereistraße 25, 74722 Buchen

The Buchen District Museum has one of the most important folklore collections in the Franconian region of Baden.

The collections of the Buchen District Museum are spread over two buildings of the former Electorate of Mainz official winery, the so-called Stone Building (1493) and the Trunzerhaus.

To mark the 100th anniversary of the museum in 2011, a new presentation of the collections took place. The focus is on the different living conditions on the dividing line between the Odenwald and the Bauland.

In the stone building, the natural conditions and early forms of settlement are shown, as well as exhibits on rural and middle-class living culture and textiles and a collection of paintings and prints, in particular works by the Hollerbach painters‘ colony.

The section on rural and small religious monuments leads on to the collection of sacred folk art in the Trunzerhaus . There are also exhibits on the town‘s history and economic history, including the studio of Buchen‘s first photographer Karl Weiß.

A special feature is the memorial to the life and work of the composer Joseph Martin Kraus (1756-1792), who grew up in the Trunzerhaus, with the Vleugels music collection.
