The 10 km hiking trail requires a certain level of fitness. The effort is rewarded with unique views from the tower of the Gotthard ruins.

First you climb the panoramic high plateau of the high-altitude village of Neudorf on quiet forest paths above Amorbach. From the high plateau, you enter the forest again and hike to Gotthardsberg with the impressive Gotthard ruins. From its roof, you have a fantastic view of seven valleys. You return to Amorbach via a forest path with beautiful viewpoints.

Route description:
From the old town parking lot, head north past the statue of St. Nepomuk over the Billbach bridge. After the bridge, the path turns right. Along the way, information boards of the Bergstraße-Odenwald Geo-Nature Park provide information about the gems of red sandstone that are well worth seeing. The red sandstone path follows the course of the stream until you finally reach a barbecue hut in the Albert-Anlage. The trail now winds its way up the Sommerberg. You pass the viewpoint with the mushroom erected by the Odenwaldklub and the romantically babbling Amelsquelle spring. The hairpin bends lead into a hiking trail that takes you past the Warzenstein to the idyllic village of Neudorf. Before entering the village, turn left onto a small avenue where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Bavarian and Baden Odenwald and a picnic area. Once back in the dense mixed forests, you will soon come to a refuge, the so-called Fuß-Pils-Hütte. Here you turn right onto a small path that leads above the Rheuenthal valley through a dense forest of Douglas fir and spruce to the Sattelhütte. Here you can once again enjoy a fantastic view of the baroque town of Amorbach. The route then continues up the Gotthardsberg. The impressive Gotthard ruins are the highlight of the hike. It is worth climbing up the narrow spiral staircase inside the church to the roof and enjoying the unique view. On the south side, follow the small path that leads back down to Gotthardsstraße. If you follow this, after a few hundred meters you will see the starting point of the hike, the large old town parking lot.
